Michael investigates the ways that the three powers of the human spirit relate to Christian faith as the instrument of salvation. He begins with a discussion of the intellectual aspects of faith, and another damaging corollary of the primacy of the intellect error in the West. He thens goes on to discuss historical Christian definitions of faith, in both confessions, texts, and practice. Most address faith in terms of both intellect and will, but still fail to address the affectional aspects of faith and salvation. Michael explores some of the biblical conceptions of affectional faith, closing with some advice about choosing a church and evangelism.

  1. You have exhorted us to submission a few times in this series. As a Presbyterian wife, I’ve heard quite a few different definitions of Christian submission. I think it might be helpful if you expanded a bit on what Christian submission looks like, in your understanding. And I would be particularly interested in hearing the reasons why you have come to your definition of Christian submission.

    • I’m really glad you asked about this. That is the topic of episode 10! If you want to read more about what I think about this in the meantime, I wrote an article about it here: Voluntary

. I’ll elaborate on these thoughts in reference to the three powers next week. Thanks, Lisa! Great question.
