The famous fashion duo, and one-time homosexual power couple, Dolce & Gabbana, have come out recently in an interview with Italian magazine Panorama—against gay marriage, gay adoption, and non-traditional families:
According to translations, the pair — who dated for 23 years and broke up in 2005 — stated that children born through IVF are “children of chemistry, synthetic children. Uteruses for rent, semen chosen from a catalog.”
“I am gay, I cannot have a child. I guess you cannot have everything in life,” Dolce added. “Life has a natural course, some things cannot be changed. One is the family.”
How can these men, both of whom are as gay as can be, cast aspersions on the political and cultural aspirations of their homosexual peers? That’s a bit of a mystery. But apparently Dolce grew up in a traditional family, and he thought it was fantastic. So he’s speaking for children when he says that the traditional family is the natural environment for raising kids. And he is speaking particularly about male homosexuals here. He doesn’t want children to be raised without mothers.
Of course, the backlash took about 2 microseconds to accumulate. Elton John disparaged their views and their fashion, calling both “out of step with the times.” He recommended a boycott, of course. Other stars, most of whom have “synthetic” children through IVF, also came out against Dolce & Gabbana.
Of course, in every case where Dolce & Gabbana were criticized for being hateful, they were also victims of hate and abuse. I fail to see how responding to hate with hate is not also hate.
Dolce & Gabbana think the same:
“We firmly believe in democracy and the fundamental principle of freedom of expression that upholds it,” Gabbana, who also took to Instagram to defend freedom of expression, said. “We talked about our way of seeing reality, but it was never our intention to judge other people’s choices. We do believe in freedom and love.”
Right. Well, if you believe in freedom and love, free speech, diversity of opinion, and anything like it, you should probably recognize by now that none of those things mean anything to homosexuals if you disagree with them. Even if you’re “one” of them. So who are the narrow-minded, idealist, easily offended, hateful, hidebound, exclusivist bigots? Oh that’s right. I almost forgot. People who believe in traditional families are. Or not.
