It’s a fact that reality eventually catches up with and punishes lies. It might not happen in the short-term, but over time, every ideology in contradiction to common sense eventually loses. By attrition.
There is one major area in our day where liberals are losing the war of attrition: population. Recent statistics indicate that solid blue northeastern states are losing influence in the national House of Representatives because populations there are dwindling:
The Census Bureau reports that population growth has shifted to the South and the result is that the 11 states that make up the Northeast are being bled dry of representation in Washington.
Critics blame rising taxes in states such as Massachusetts and Connecticut for limiting population growth in the Northeast to just 15 percent from 1983 to 2013, while the rest of the nation grew more than 41 percent.
The biggest impact comes in the loss of congressional representation.
I’m sure Democrats would love to believe that high taxes alone are responsible for the most recent losses of attrition in the Northeast. They could always lower taxes or stimulate economic growth with more spending (Keynes would be proud). But what if high taxation isn’t the main reason for their loss of population? Let’s look at some interesting facts:
Liberal ideology, when consistently followed, tends to decrease population. Homosexuals can’t reproduce. That’s just a biological fact. Feminists tend to pursue careers and have fewer children later in their lives, if at all. Environmentalists and “population experts” say man is a disease and we should do the world a favor and stop having kids. Most damning of all, abortion then kills huge numbers of future citizens.
Noticing a trend? The fact is that liberal ideology is killing its future. Its also trying to steal ours, but the statistics indicate that conservatives are winning this war of attrition. We’re gaining more and more power in the House (simply by having more people in our states). We value traditional families as the best incubators for plenty of children. We reject the alarmism of environmentalism and the selfishness of “population controls.” And we’re not killing off our children with abortion.
So we win. Not because we’re smarter necessarily. Or more wealthy. Or more powerful. We’re just having more kids and larger populations. That gives us a future. Long live the war of attrition.
