Willie Nelson is Launching His Own Brand of Weed

Willie Nelson generally stays out of politics. When he gets involved, it usually has something to do with weed. There was that one time when he purportedly smoked weed with the Slick version of his namesake on the roof of the White House, and now this—Willie Nelson wants his own brand of weed.

. . . Willie has spent a lifetime in support of cannabis, both the industrial hemp side and the marijuana side. He wants it to be something that’s reflective of his passion. Ultimately, it’s his. But it was developed by his family, and their focus on environmental and social issues, and in particular this crazy war on drugs, and trying to be a bright light amongst this trail as we’re trying to extract ourselves from the goo of prohibition.

Really he wants it, at the end of the day, to envelop what his personal morals and convictions are. So from the store itself to how they’ll work with suppliers and how things are operated, it’s going to be very reflective of Willie’s life.

Apparently it’s going to be called Willie’s Reserve, and it will have some serious quality controls, including regulations on how much carbon the weed farms are emitting. Because we wouldn’t want any smoke fumes rising into the air or anything. Anyway, beginning in pot-legal states, Willie Nelson will be creating stores with his own line of pot-smoking gear and even his own strains of weed. And I can imagine that resting on all of it will be the iconic face of the iconoclastic star.

I imagine this is just the beginning of “star-endorsed” marijuana. It has become far more common in recent years for celebrities to own lines of liquor and beer. Justin Timberlake and George Clooney have their tequilas. Jay-Z has a cognac. Dan Akroyd has a vodka. Kenny Chesney has a rum. Now Willie Nelson wants a weed.

This is just the logical next step, and Willie wants to get in first, I guess. Who knows who else will jump on when and if pot becomes nationally legal. Seems like Snoop Dogg could definitely make something happen there.
