Tactical Urbanism a Shadow of the Future

The nice thing about government incompetence and tyranny is that, in many ways, it is weaning people off of dependence on the civil government. The civil government is so bad at doing its job, it will almost make it a relief when the economy collapses and the civil government withdraws from our daily lives. That’s what tactical urbanism is all about.

A group of citizens around the country are posting their own street signs and developing their own urban programs because they believe the civil authorities are either too slow or too lazy to change. One recent example of tactical urbanism came from Nikki Sylianteng, a New Yorker that got completely fed up with how obtuse parking signs were. So she designed and posted her own.

This activity is obviously “illegal.” And most of the much improved signs were pulled down by city officials. But while the clear, helpful signs were up, New Yorkers got a taste of how the city could run if people who cared about their jobs and the city were actually in charge of things. In other words, they got a taste of what things would be like if the citizens ran things in their own interests.

The fact is that it feels more and more like the civil government is actually at war with the people. Why are parking signs so confusing? Because making them clear reduces revenue for the city, that’s why. Why do police lie in wait for generally law-abiding citizens to break speed limits that are enforced arbitrarily? Why are we paying the civil government for services we don’t want or use? Why?

This can’t go on for long. Eventually tactical urbanism will be the norm because the civil government will go bankrupt. Many people look at that scenario likes it’s the end of the world. In some ways, it will be better and easier almost immediately.

  1. Government incompetence – hum, guess social security isn’t part of the government. Last week I applied for my SS payments – did so over the phone; agent I was talking to surprised me when he said, “…looks like we owe you some money…” and right then in real time I saw about $1000 placed into my bank account. I’ve had similar good experiences also with DMV issues and property tax issues. I have found government people to be very professional and they know what they are doing. Yeah, of course there are horror stories, but it’s not like the private segment doesn’t have it’s share of horror stories. Try getting your credit history corrected and you’ll see what I mean.

    • Thank you for pointing out how Social InSecurity is incompetent. You forgot to mention it has a $2,000,000,000,000 IOU from Congress, which Congress paid off in part by borrowing money from the Postal Service under Bubba and Newt, called “foregone revenue” and took a 42 year IOU to do it, owed to the Postal Service.

You think USA debt was a good investment of the funds? SSI has to go begging for the money each year (like the postal service – I published their 2012 begging letter) and now the government is going to go bankrupt paying for it. It will not be around for me when I am 65, never mind my grandkids that will have to pay off what the previous generations ran up by giving benefits WAY out of proportion to the money taken in.

It is a scam. It is a Ponzi scheme that would have made Ponzi proud and like his, it will fail. The only reason it has not already is they keep printing money, which in turn will kill the USA dollar and bring in the NWO mentioned in the Bible.

  2. If Mr. Minkoff is concerned about parking spaces than he should have written about the U.N. Reps. from around the world can park where they please. They’re immune to our laws. What happened to the movement to send the U.N. to Europe?

  3. everything is illegal now. you can wake up go to work and go home and realize you have probly committed two to three felonys. its not goin to change till this crazy place collapses. so can we skip all this bs and get on with the collapse please before the majority of americans get life for jaywalking or arrested for wearing an american flag tshirt. i sure miss the days of when we was a republic. how did all these commies become leaders?
