DOJ Unveils Transgender Awareness Training for Police

Apparently, the police are not sensitive enough to transgender people. At least, that is what the Department of Justice thinks. It just unveiled a program to train police in transgender awareness.

According to the DOJ, transgender people are often the victims of violence, but they are less likely to report crimes against them because of the way they perceive the police. And the DOJ thinks it can train police how to change that perception.

Just exactly what the police need training in was unclear. According to Yahoo! News:

The lesson plans includes suggestions for confronting bullying in schools as well as lists of do’s—such as asking a person for his or her preferred gender pronoun—and don’ts, such as using the term “transvestite” or asking whether the person has had sex-change surgery.

I think the best part of this whole paragraph is this line—“asking a person for his or her preferred gender pronoun.” I am just outraged that this writer would limit the gender options of transgender people to “his or her.” Doesn’t this writer realize how insensitive that is toward transgender people? Only small-minded bigots use such exclusive binary oppositions. Using only “him” and “her” just continues to reinforce the tyranny of heterosexual normativity.

I’m being sarcastic, of course.

But I’m not exaggerating what people in the transgender department think. How about this quote from a blog about getting English a true “gender-neutral” pronoun:

Many people have expressed the need for a singular gender-neutral third-person pronoun: that is, a pronoun to use when someone’s gender is unknown or when the individual is neither male or female. Such instances occur when addressing transgender and genderqueer people who don’t feel comfortable being addressed with masculine or feminine pronouns . . .

Fifty years ago we were having a battle about the neutral singular pronoun with feminists who thought “he and she” and “his and her” needed to start cluttering up sentence structures for no reason. And now this poor Yahoo! writer who thinks he is being so politically correct shows himself behind the times even while reporting on the future of sensitivity training.

This just shows how ridiculous and pathetic we’ve become as a society. The police are being forced to learn how to put on kid gloves for cross-dressing prostitutes and men who want to trade their penises in for vaginas (clearly a very stable and reasonable segment of society). And we’re being forced to pay for these transgender “training” programs through our taxes. And, in the end, I guarantee you it will serve no one—not transgender people or anyone else. It just adds to the accumulated detritus of political correctness that clogs the arteries of transparent communication and forces everyone into victimhood.

  1. The only transgender awareness training needed is:

“A woman shall not wear a man’s garment, nor shall a man put on a woman’s cloak, for whoever does these things is an abomination to YHWH your God” (Deuteronomy 22:5)

This is but another consequence of the rights culture created by the Enlightenment framers, which has contributed to selling America down the river. See “America’s Hell: Paved With Rights.” Click on my name, then our website. Go to our blog and scroll down to title.

  2. Hmmm… society shouldn’t be allowed to function on its own without direction from the Police State; therefor every citizen should have their own personally appointed cop to scrutinize them and correct them every moment of the day, and when necessary, arrest them or shoot them.
    Does that about cover it??

  3. “Many people have expressed the need for a singular gender-neutral third-person pronoun: that is, a pronoun to use when someone’s gender is unknown” – how about freak – I think that sums it up quite nicely.

  4. If they don’t know who or what they are, why on earth should we have to worry about their sensitivities. In fact let’s just tell the police to use “it” and that should cover everything.

  5. What a fiaso. Sensitivity training. These smucks don’t get enough sleep. Years ago if on occasion you couldn’t fall asleep you counted sheep. It seems today they conger up the most idiot ideas. The Spanish language uses different words when coupled with male or female. My suggestion, can’t sleep, occupy yourself with a good days work. You won’t have a problem falling asleep.

  6. What do you do with true hermaphrodites? The odds of your having one are about 1 in 3,000, from what little I am finding on the web.

  7. I see nothing wrong with being prepared. No one can always be 100 percent prepaired all the time but we do have responsible leaders that try An officers job is hard enough without the unknown. While they do not like the distasteful parts of the job a clear guideline does help in dealing with situations that are out of the ordinary.

  8. Sensitivity training had started, a few years ago, in Palm Springs. The cops had busted some gays for public sex and they were chastised so badly that the Chief of Police finally resigned.

  9. Until science figures out how to alter one’s DNA, there will never even Be such as thing as ‘Transgender’. The only thing that they’re doing now, is altering how they look and, occasionally having their ‘outie’ turned into an ‘innie’, or vice versa. Along with taking hormones and plastic surgery.
Since they are Not altering the person’s DNA. they haven’t really changed anything, except on the surface. If you’re born with a certain DNA and you die with that same DSNA, how can you say you had a ‘sex change’ ? Ridiculous ! It’s only wishful thinking !

  10. Bummer. This means that before the cops shoot you down for doing nothing, they have to make you drop your pants and reveal you gender. Since most cops are perverts, I think they are going to like this training.

  11. If these people want to be seen as a man or a woman then they should be up to taking being treated as such. What do they want next special jails so a woman that wants to be treated like a man won’t be raped if we throw her in with men?
If they want to play this sexist game then they need to be prepared for the consequences.
Young men that go to jail don’t get the protection they need from the older guys and sometimes the police. Neither do young women.
No, it shouldn’t happen, but human nature being what it is with the lowest morals in America right now should not have to condescend to those who choose to make the sexuality an issue.

  12. Hope and change, huh. A change we never saw coming, a hope we never expected.
